What could be more appropriate for Halloween than half a dozen artists covering songs by rock’s greatest chameleon, David Bowie? This week we feature music by the Thin White Duke and present artists from Michelle Branch to Dinosaur Jr. to Puff Daddy covering classics from his extensive catalog. We also throw in a little foreign language Bowie and the Laughing Gnome himself, possibly the worst weirdest strangest song any respectable artist has ever recorded. All this plus some Zuton Fever, Ireland’s pride and joy The Pogues, a trip to Big Rock Candy Mountain, and a remembrance of 1985! Drop by the website and have a listen!

Does anybody have the "Guys and Dolls" soundtrack? I really need it as a present to my brother, whose birthday is in two days. ^_~ I can trade it for a "Best of Andrew Lloyd Webber" or "Best Broadway Musicals" CD via MegaUpload, Rapidshare, or some similar website.

Some music for you to download. I've sorted this by album and then posted a sample song or two so you can see whether or not you'd like to download the full thing. I don't want to bombard this community, so if you want more, feel free to take from my blog.

Thought you guys might be interested that I'm turning my journal into a mp3 blog w/ posts on a semi-daily basis. Genres featured will mostly be hip hop, jazz, funk, R&B, and soul. Sometimes rock, spoken word, blues, and early 20s Black music will be featured as well. Also, once a week, I'll post a hip hop video from the 80s and 90s since I have a large collection of them.

You can check out my last three posts and see if the music suits you. Remember that each posts will contain *at least* mp3s in soul, jazz, funk and hip hop. More to come. Enjoy, share, and spread the word.

Leave feedback to let me know what you would like to see more of too. Requests are welcome.

I'm planning a journey down to London next week, to go to see The Woman in White before Maria Friedman leaves, and I'm trying to make a playlist. Does anyone have anything from Forbidden Broadway they could possibly send me? My email address is divinefuchsia@hotmail.com. Anything is welcome, but especially any Julie Andrews parody and'Wickeder'

Hello, all! I'm new to this group, and as per the instructions, I thought that I should post a partial list of what I have available. I'd do a more thorough job, but I have to leave for work soon, and it would mean going through all of my albums. Which would take quite a bit of time. I adore making mix tapes (and CDs as well, occasionally), but more than one friend has chafed at my inclusion of a large number of pieces from musicals. At last, a place for someone like me!

With regards to musicals, I don't have a terrible lot of albums, but the ones that I do have get very good use. Again, this is only a partial list, but off the top of my head, I have...

Hedwig and the Angry Inch (both the original Broadway cast recording, and the "Wig In a Box" tribute album)
Hair (both the original American cast and the original German cast)
1776 (the new cast with Brent Spiner)
Brigadoon (original cast)
EFX (Vegas show with Michael Crawford)
Batboy the Musical
The Full Monty
Jekyll & Hyde
Phantom of the Opera
Phantom (another musical based on the same book, but done before Andrew Lloyd Weber's show came out)
Rocky Horror Picture Show
Notre Dame de Paris (both the American and French casts)
Pacific Overtures

I've also got quite a bit of what might be called "easy listening", from Sarah Brightman to Bing Crosby and Jimmy Durante. There's also quite a bit of folk music and classical recordings in my collection, from Holly Near and the Righteous Mothers to Salieri. If you want to know whether I've got a particular album or not, just ask--I just might.

Anyhow, I'm looking forward to hearing from folks! As to what I'd like from others--surprise me! I love themed mix tapes, both making and receiving, and greatly enjoy discovering new pieces to listen to.
